Alty Towers Network
Alty Towers are the district network group. The idea of Altrincham Network is to get involved when you can, though there is no strict commitment, due to many of our members being away at university or working. Our meeting times therefore are less frequent taking place on a fortnightly basis.
A wide range of events are undertaken by Network such as cooking challenges, hikes and cinema trips. We also try to get involved with other Network groups and experience new activities, mainly through camps such as Mersey Moot. Every winter, we also hold our own "survival" camp, where Scouting goes back to basics!
In the last two summers, we have also undertaken two camps with our Polish friends from Garwolin Scouts. We have visited Poland where we explored the cities of Warsaw and Lublin, kayaked down the River Wilga and enjoyed traditional Polish food. Garwolin Scouts have also experienced camping in the Lake District, enjoyed the excitement of gully canyoning and seen the sites of Manchester.
We also offer members the chance to complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award through the unit. The Gold Award can also help in achieving the Queen's Scout Award- the highest award that a young member in Scouting can achieve. By completing the award, you are invited to a parade held at Windsor Castle and presented with your award by a member of the Royal Family or by Bear Grylls.
Network members are also offered the opportunity to take part in a 2/3 week Explorer Belt. The idea is to travel through a European country with little money, learning about the culture and the way of life of people living there.
